Sheldon High School (California) maintains the top spot in this week's USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25, released Thursday by the NFCA. Sheldon survived a tough week, which included a 1-0, 13-inning victory over district rival Pleasant Grove and a 14-1 romp of Monterey Trail.

In the Pleasant Grove win, Jolene Henderson struck out 18 in the circle, while Jolene Henderson had the game's lone RBI.

Klein Oak (Texas) is the new No. 2, after recording three wins this past week.

The top five also includes No. 3 Naples (Florida), No. 4 Norco (California) and No. 5 Alexander Central (North Carolina).

Elsewhere, Pembroke Pines Charter (Florida) makes it 2009 poll debut thanks to taking championship honors in the Kissimmee Klassic Blue Bracket this past weekend. That victory included wins over then-No. 16 Timber Creek and then-No. 6 Niceville.
