Five more programs – national runner-up Kirkwood Community College, Johnson County, North Iowa Area Community College, Pearl River Community College and Rock Valley College – took home two All-America accolades apiece. Both selections for Johnson County and NIACC landed on the first team, while the other three programs earned one first-team selection.
Six student-athletes earned their second straight All-America honor, including consecutive first-team nods for Parkland’s Karley Yergler (pitcher) and the Louisburg trio of Taylor McQueen (catcher), Edi Austin (at-large third base) and Joan Joyce Utility/Pitcher Kennedy Byrd, which was renamed last season to honor the late NFCA Hall of Famer and pioneer of women’s sports.
Also collecting their second All-America accolade is Louisburg first-teamer Darah Nickens (DP or Utility/Non-Pitcher) and second-team selection Alexa Shoemaker (at-large shortstop) of Potomac State College.
NFCA All-Region and All-America athletes must be nominated by their NFCA-member head coach, are voted for by the coaches in their region or division, and ultimately selected by elected NJCAA Division II All-American committee members to receive this prestigious accolade. All special awards are also selected by the All-American committee members or by the entire division.
