LOUISVILLE, Ky. —Christopher Newport’s Jamie Martin and Hartford’s Olivia Wolk claimed the penultimate Division III Wilson/NFCA Pitcher and Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week honors of the 2024 season on Tuesday.

Martin was huge in the (28-5) Captains’ doubleheader sweep of then-No. 1 Salisbury on Saturday that moved Christopher Newport up four places to No. 3 in this week’s NFCA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll. The junior left-hander struck out eight in a complete-game four-hitter in game one, and fanned two in one inning of relief to close out the nightcap. For the two games, Martin walked two and allowed just four hits and one earned run over 10 innings in the circle.

It was the second and third wins for the Captains over a top-ranked team this season. Christopher Newport upset Trine on March 3 when the Thunder were the No. 1 team, 5-4 in both teams’ final contest at the NFCA Division III Leadoff Classic.

Meanwhile, Wolk had a terrific week for Hartford, hitting .727 (8-for-11) with five runs scored, two homers, four runs batted in, two walks and zero strikeouts in 13 plate appearances. She had multiple hits in all three games, including going 4-for-4 with three runs, two longballs and three RBI in the first game of a doubleheader split with Suffolk on Saturday.

On defense, Wolk recorded five putouts and an outfield assist from center field.
