LOUISVILLE, Ky. – UT Tyler returned to No. 1 in this week’s 2022 Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Patriots (27-3), who picked up three wins in Lone Star Conference (LSC) play, received 14 of a possible 16 first place votes and 398 points.
UT Tyler leapfrogged Concordia Irvine, who dethroned the Patriots a week ago, and have been ranked in the top spot in eight of the nine polls this season. UT Tyler split with then-No. 12 Texas A&M University-Kingsville and swept Texas A&M International
The Eagles (38-3) suffered their first defeats of 2022 following a record 36-0 start. CUI opened the week with a four-game sweep of Hawai’i Pacific in PacWest play before heading to the Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif. The Eagles posted a 2-3 mark over the weekend, earning wins over Western Oregon and Cal Poly Humboldt and dropping contests to host Stanislaus State, Sonoma State and RV Cal State Monterey Bay.
Rogers State, Valdosta State, Indianapolis and Tampa held firm at No. 3 through No. 6. The Hillcats (31-3) posted a 5-1 mark last week recording four shutouts in MIAA action and earning a mid-week split at Arkansas Tech.
The Blazers (24-5) swept Gulf South Conference foe Christian Brothers, while the Greyhounds (28-4) and the Spartans (25-9) registered 5-1 and 2-1 marks in league play.
Following three top-10 road wins in LSC action, A&M-Kingsville climbed to No. 7. Along with the split at UT Tyler, the Javelinas (33-6) swept then-No-9 Texas A&M University Commerce.
Rounding out the top 10 is Cal State San Marcos (31-3), Auburn Montgomery (27-6) and Central Oklahoma (30-6). The Cougars were idle and return to action in a top-10 clash at No. 2 CUI on April 9.
The Warhawks swept West Alabama in LSC play, while the Bronchos (30-6) reached the 30-win plateau after taking both ends of a MIAA doubleheader from Newman.
New to the poll this week are No. 20 Southern Indiana and No. 21 Anderson. The Screaming Eagles (26-8) are riding a 14-game win streak and are atop the Great Lakes Valley Conference standings at 12-0. The Trojans (29-5) return to the rankings following a 4-0 week in South Atlantic Conference action.
