LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Undefeated UT Tyler and Concordia Irvine hold down the top two spots in the Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Patriots (14-0) were idle, while the Eagles elevated one spot to No. 2 as they ran their unbeaten start to 18 games.
Weather wreaked havoc on top-ranked UT Tyler as its road test at then-No. 12 Rogers State was canceled. Concordia Irvine swept through its first six games of Pacific West Conference play. The Eagles (18-0) posted a 6-0 mark on the road, sweeping Dominican and opening a four-game second four-game series at Academy of Art with two triumphs.
Valdosta State dipped a spot to No. 3, while No. 4 West Texas A&M and No. 5 Indianapolis each moved up one position in the rankings. After splitting a mid-week non-conference twinbill at Georgia Southwestern, the Blazers (12-3) took the first two in Gulf South Conference action at Lee.
The fifth-ranked Greyhounds’ (11-1) offense continued to put up big numbers, posting a 4-0 mark at the Blue Bridge Battle by outscoring their opposition 46-5, and has scored at least seven runs in all 12 contests this season, averaging 10.42 per game.
Along with UT Tyler, the fourth-ranked Lady Buffs (11-2), No. 6 Angelo State (15-1), No. 8 Rogers State (14-2) and No. 10 Augustana (4-3) were idle last week.
No. 7 Grand Valley State opened its 2022 campaign with five wins at the Lewis Dome Tournament. The Lakers (5-0) run-ruled Minnesota State-Moorhead, McKendree, William Jewell and Truman State before rallying late twice to walk off against Winona State in the finale.
North Georgia fell six spots to No. 9 after a 3-3 week. The NightHawks (14-6) went 1-3 on its road trip in Florida, being swept by Eckerd before splitting with then-No. 13 Tampa. UNG returned home on Sunday and rolled to a pair of run-rule shutout wins over Bluefield State.
Joining the top 25 for the first time in 2022 is Harding at No. 24 and Carson-Newman at No. 25. The Bisons (13-4) topped Southeastern Oklahoma twice on Sunday and all four of their defeats have come against top-25 programs. The Eagles (17-3) knocked off Concord, Erskine, Emmanuel and Lander at the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational and have won seven straight and 12 of their last 13.
