LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Anderson’s Kayson Boatner and Adelphi’s Lindsey Hibbs were named NFCA’s Division II Louisville Slugger Player and Wilson Pitcher of the Week. Each earning their second nod of the season, the duo is being recognized for outstanding performances during contests played March 28-April 3.
Over a four-game stretch, Boatner launched seven long balls, drove in 12 runs and slugged an eye-popping 2.462, keying the Trojans to a 4-0 weekend. The senior infielder hit .769 (10-for-13), scored nine runs and now leads NCAA Division II with 21 home runs. In a 12-6 comeback victory over Tusculum, Boatner homered three times, including a three-run shot while be intentionally walked that evened the game at six-all. Boatner’s heroics didn’t end there. The Phenix City, Ala. native in home runs notched two more round trippers, including a two-run walk off in a 5-3 win over Newberry.
Hibbs continued her dominance in the circle for the Panthers as she picked up three more wins of the Panthers. The sophomore righty tossed another shutout, scattered five hits and fanned 28 over 15 innings of work. Hibbs struck out 12 and walked one in a two-hit six-inning shutout of Stonehill. She followed that performance up with a three-hit complete game effort against Bentley in which she surrendered an unearned run.
The Division II Player and Pitcher of the Week awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which consists of two head coaches from each of the NCAA’s eight regions. To be eligible, student-athletes must be nominated by their member head coach.
