LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The top eight of the 2021 NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll stayed intact, while there was movement amongst the remaining ranked teams. Southern Arkansas (2-0), which has been idle since Jan. 30, holds the top spot with No. 2 North Georgia picking up three first-place votes after another undefeated weekend.
Of the top eight, only the NightHawks (10-0), and No. 5 Young Harris were able to get on the field last week. UNG swept a pair of doubleheaders at home from then-No. 16 Southern Indiana (8-3, 8-1) and Wingate (6-1, 8-0). The Mountain Lions (8-1) also faced off against the same opponents, and earned victories over the Bulldogs (2-1 in 8 inn., 8-4) and Screaming Eagles (6-4).
Rounding out the top 10, Valdosta State and Oklahoma Christian moved into the No. 9 and 10 spots, respectively. The Blazers (5-1) swept Shorter (11-0, 12-1, 9-1) in a Gulf South Conference road series, and the Eagles (4-0) topped East Central (4-2) and Chadron State (12-0) at home.
Speaking of the top 10, there are some big matchups this upcoming weekend with No. 3 Augustana making a trip to the Lone Star state to face off against No. 4 UT Tyler and No. 7 Texas A&M University-Commerce, along with St. Mary’s and Texas Woman’s. The fourth-ranked Patriots (2-0) will also host No. 16 Rogers State (0-0).
Saginaw Valley State, which opened with five wins last weekend, enters the rankings at No. 25. The Cardinals (5-0) knocked off Quincy (7-2), Ursuline (3-0), William Jewell (9-1), Findlay (15-6) and Hillsdale (4-1). Dropping out of the poll was Southern Indiana after a 1-4 opening weekend.
No. 14 Lincoln Memorial, No. 18 Texas A&M University-Kingsville and No. 20 Grand Valley Sate improved their rankings by six, five and four spots respectively. On the flip side, No. 19 Angelo State and No. 21 Lenoir Rhyne plummeted ten and six places, respectively.
