LOUISVILLE, Ky. –Lubbock Christian’s Tyla Lee and Texas A&M University-Commerce’s Alyssa LeBlanc earned the NFCA’s Division II Louisville Slugger Player and Wilson Pitcher of the Week honors for their outstanding performances during contests played Feb. 14-20.
Lee packed a punch at the plate over five games last week. She hit .688 (11-for-16) with three doubles, two home runs and eight RBI. Lee was 2-for-2 with the bases loaded, registered four multi-hit contests and slugged 1.250. The graduate student from Red Deer, Alberta, cranked both long balls and drove in a career-high five runs in a victory over No. 14 Rogers State, snapping the Hillcats’ 10-game win streak.
LeBlanc posted a 2-0 mark with a 0.70 ERA and 20 strikeouts to just two walks over 10 innings for the Lions. She surrendered just four hits and held her opposition to a .118 batting average. LeBlanc twirled the first perfect game in program history, fanning eight of the 15 Northern State batters she faced. The Katy, Texas native also fanned 12 in a complete-game effort versus Fort Lewis. LeBlanc helped herself out at the plate, hitting .455 with three doubles, a home run and eight RBI.
The Division II Player and Pitcher of the Week awards are voted on by the NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll Committee, which consists of two head coaches from each of the NCAA’s eight regions. To be eligible, student-athletes must be nominated by their member head coach.
