LOUISVILLE, Ky. – North Georgia has a dancing partner atop the rankings in West Texas A&M. The programs, which have been No. 1 & 2 since Feb. 20, share the top spot in this week’s 2024 NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Nighthawks (32-4) and Lady Buffs (30-3) each received eight first and second place votes for 392 points.
UNG and WT posted 5-1 and 3-0 marks last week. The Nighthawks swept Montevallo in non-conference action and followed with a Peach Belt series win against Flagler, while the Lady Buffs swept then-RV St. Mary’s in Lone Star Conference play.
The only movement amongst the rest of the top 10 was Indianapolis taking over the No. 5 spot from UT Tyler. The Greyhounds (29-2) pushed their win streak to 20 games with a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader sweeps, while the Patriots (28-7) went 3-2 at home, splitting with Oklahoma Baptist and taking two-of-three from Eastern New Mexico in league play.
UIndy now owns the top active winning streak in Division II, after No. 11 Pittsburg State was edged twice by No. 3 Rogers State, ending its 22-game run of victories.
The remaining top-10 teams - No. 3 Rogers State, No. 4 Tampa, No. 7 Grand Valley State, No. 8 Colorado Christian, No. 9 Central Oklahoma and No. 10 Mississippi College – went a combined 26-0 as the entirety of the top 10 posted a 40-3 record last week. Three of those programs – Rogers State, Tampa and UCO – own win streaks of 16, 16 and 19, respectively.
There was some shuffling amongst the teams outside the top 12. Western Washington (22-4) inched up one spot to No. 13 as it captured the Tournament of Champions with a 5-0 showing which included a win over then-No. 19 Cal State San Marcos. Concordia made the biggest move up as it elevated to No. 17, while Northwest Nazarene dipped to No. 22.
