LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Following a dominating start to conference play, UT Tyler continues its hold on the unanimous No. 1 spot in this week’s NFCA/GoRout Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Patriots (13-0) opened Lone Star Conference (LSC) action with doubleheader sweeps of UT Permian Basin and Sul Ross State by a combined score of 56-4.
A top-10 matchup in the Gulf South Conference kicked things off as No. 2 Auburn Montgomery swept then-No. 9 Trevecca Nazarene (5-1, 8-0, 2-0), which had opened the season 9-0. It marked the fourth time in five seasons the Warhawks (8-2) swept their GSC-opening series.
Tampa took over the No. 3 spot after it collected a three-game sweep of then-RV Saint Leo (3-2, 6-4, 5-2) at home, improving to 10-1. Angelo State jumped up two more positions to No. 5, sitting in between idle No. 4 Wilmington and No. 6 Augustana. The Rambelles (13-1) earned four home wins in LSC play, sweeping No. 20 Oklahoma Christian and Cameron.
Hampered by inclement weather, No. 7 Rogers State won its lone contest last week against Southeastern Oklahoma State, while No. 8 West Texas A&M and No. 9 Francis Marion climbed into the top 10. The Lady Buffs improved to 14-0 following a LSC sweep of St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s, while the Patriots (8-2) knocked off University of South Carolina Beaufort in a doubleheader.
North Georgia, which held the No. 3 ranking, plummeted out of the top-10 to No. 11, following a 2-2 week at home, sweeping Emmanuel, but also being swept by Emory & Henry. Another program that made a big drop was then-No. 15 Mississippi College, which dropped out of the rankings after it was swept at home in GSC action by West Alabama.
Making their way into the rankings this week are No. 23 Lubbock Christian (12-2) and No. 25 Cal State East Bay (9-0). It marks the first time the latter Pioneers are nationally ranked. Mississippi College (6-7) and then-No. 24 Northwest Nazarene (6-7) dropped out.
