LOUISVILLE, Ky. – For the first time in program history, Texas A&M is the No 1 team in the NFCA/GoRout Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll. The Aggies (37-5) are coming off a sweep of then-No. 5 LSU in Southeastern Conference action, which ran their win streak to 12 games.
After holding the No. 5 spot for four straight weeks, Texas A&M (24 first-place votes) inched closer each of the last two weeks before skipping the No. 2 ranking and going straight to the top. No. 2 was the program’s previous highest ranking, achieved twice during the 2008 season when the Aggies were national runners-up. All five of Texas A&M’s defeats this season have come against teams currently inside the top 25 of the NCAA’s RPI.
Texas, which had held the No. 1 ranking the last three weeks, dipped to No. 3 following its first SEC series loss of the season to new-No. 4 Tennessee. The Longhorns (39-5) did receive five first-place votes.
The second-ranked Sooners (36-4) were the only top-10 program to hold their spot after they split the first two contests at new-No. 22 Alabama.
The Lady Vols (34-9), who jumped up three spots, have now won series against SEC newcomers Oklahoma and Texas, both on the road, when they were the respective No. 1 teams in rankings.
No. 6 UCLA and No. 7 Florida State also improved on their rankings this week and became the first two Division I programs to reach 40 wins in 2025. The Bruins (40-5) and Seminoles (40-6) each went 4-0 last week with UCLA extending its win streak to 12 games, while FSU has won 19 of its last 20.
Losing ground inside the top 10 were No. 5 Oregon, No. 8 Florida and No. 9 LSU. The Ducks (38-4) and Gators (37-9) each went 3-1, while the Tigers (35-8) posted a 1-3 mark last week. Oregon swept Minnesota in Big Ten action after it had its nine-game win streak snapped by Loyola Marymount in a mid-week contest. UF took two of three at then-No. 19 Ole Miss.
Virginia Tech’s steady climb up the rankings continued as it comes in at No. 10 this week. The red-hot Hokies (36-5) won four more games last week and own Division I’s longest active win streak at 17.
Also making significant moves up the poll are No. 18 Nebraska and No. 20 Clemson, rising three and four spots, respectively. On the flipside, South Carolina fell out of the top 10 to No. 13 with No. 21 Oklahoma State and No. 23 Georgia dropping out of the top 20 for the first time this season.
Virginia made its way back to No. 25 this week, while FAU’s seven-week run in the rankings ended.
