COLUMBUS, Ga. – Eight programs finished undefeated on day one of the NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic at the South Commons Complex. No. 4 Georgia Gwinnett picked up three wins on the first day, while No. 3 Cumberlands, No. 23 William Carey, No. 20 Freed-Hardeman, Rio Grande, No. 8 Central Methodist, RV Campbellsville and Thomas posted 2-0 marks.

The Grizzlies sandwiched a pair of close wins over Webber, 3-1, and Jessup, 2-1, around a 13-2 thumping of Calumet College of St. Joseph.

Highlighted by a five-run top of the seventh, the Patriots rallied from a 6-1 deficit to defeat IU Southeast, 7-6 and the momentum continued in a 14-1 thumping of No. 18 Coastal Georgia. The Crusaders earned a pair of run-rule wins over Kentucky Christian and Lawrence Tech.

The 20th-ranked Lions’ pitching staff twirled a pair of shutouts versus Coastal Georgia, 3-0 and IU Southeast, 6-0. The RedStorm edged No. 12 Mobile, 3-1, before a 16-1 triumph over Kentucky Christian. The Eagles topped Georgetown, 6-2 and Embry-Riddle, 8-3.

Campbellsville scored eight runs in the top of the sixth to break a 9-9 deadlock and defeat Blue Mountain Christian, 17-9 before a 6-1 victory over Milligan. Thomas scored 25 runs in a pair of run-rule wins over Lawrence Tech, 13-2, and Georgetown, 12-4.

Also picking up wins on the first day were Truett McConnell, Louisiana Christian, Mobile, Jessup, Embry-Riddle, Blue Mountain Christian and Lawrence Tech.

Day two features a full slate of games as the first six of 24 contests kick off at 11:00 a.m.
