LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Melissa won two more games to remain undefeated and atop the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll for a third straight week.
In typical fashion, the (21-0) Cardinals routed McKinney North 24-0 last Friday, but then had a comparatively close 8-4 victory over Walnut Grove on Wednesday.
Melissa has outscored its opponents by a 263-21 margin this season, including 131-4 over the last 10 contests. The Cardinals play Greenville next on Friday.
The No. 2 and 3 schools remained the same, with second-ranked Calvary Baptist (25-0) staying perfect with wins over St. Mary’s, Buckeye, Jena and Ouachita Parish. St. Anthony’s is set to finally open its season on Saturday against St. Joseph by-the-Sea.
Norco (12-1), Summerville (10-0) and Walsh Jesuit (3-0) each advanced one place this week, followed by Austintown-Fitch (2-0), Katy (23-1), Doral Academy (14-0) and Lake Creek (19-0) in the top 10.
Elsewhere, Monteverde Academy (10-1) dropped two spots to 16th after its 10-0 ranked loss to No. 9 Doral on Saturday. Newcomer Orange Lutheran (7-1), whose only loss this season is a 6-3 defeat versus No. 4 Norco on March 7, steps into Monteverde’s No. 14 position this week.
Fourteen teams in the poll have continued undefeated starts.
State rankings submitted by the NFCA High School Steering Committee are used to compile the NFCA Spring High School Top 25 Coaches Poll. Teams are chosen based on performance, roster quality and strength of schedule.
