LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Taft’s (Chicago, Ill.) Katherine Gonzalez, Warren County’s (Warrenton, N.C.) Jamari Moss, Henderson County’s (Henderson, Ky.) Anna Willett and Desert Vista’s (Phoenix, Ariz.) Jocely Briski earned this week’s MaxPreps / NFCA National High School Player of the Week honors. The trio garnered recognition for games played March 14-20.
North Region
Gonzalez was a perfect 10-for-10 at the plate and reached base safely in all 13 plate appearances, leading Taft to four wins last week. She registered three, three-hit games, scored 10 runs and registered five RBI. Slugging 1.900, Gonzalez recorded two doubles, two triples and a homer. She tripled and homered, scored three times and drove in four runs versus DePaul College Prep. Gonzalez also posted two doubles and two runs scored against Niles North, while adding three runs scored against Fenton.
South Region
Moss was 7-for-7 at the dish with 10 RBI and five runs scored. She slugged 2.714 with two doubles, two triples and two long balls. The junior registered both her triples and home runs with seven RBI and three runs scored in a victory over Northwest Halifax. Moss went 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored versus Southeast Halifax.
South Central Region
Willett had a big opening week for the Colonials, recording seven hits in seven at bats with four doubles, a home run, nine RBI and four runs scored. She opened with a 4-for-4 outing with three doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. Willet added three more hits with a double, long ball and six RBI against Hancock County. In the two games, she slugged 2.000 and recorded a 3.000 OPS.
West Region
Briski twirled a perfect game striking out 19 batters in a 1-0 victory over Mountain View. She followed that up with a five-hit shutout of Queen Creek in which she fanned 13 and walked one. In the 5-0 victory, Briski also was 2-for-2 at the plate with a double, home run, three RBI and two runs scored. For the week, she struck out 32, issued one walk and held her opposition to a .104 batting average.
