LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Ellington’s (Conn.) Camryn Fisher, Whitney Young’s (Ill.) Liani Delgado, Twin Springs’ (Va.) Makenzie Gillenwater, South Warren’s (Ky.) Hadley Borders and Granada Hills’ (Calif.) Elysse Diaz captured this week’s MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Spring Player of the Week honors. They are being recognized for their outstanding play during the week of May 26-June 1.
Fisher garnered East Region honors after three lights-out starts for the Knights. She struck out 50 batters over 21 innings, including 20 in a perfect game against Somers last Tuesday, and a combined 30 in a pair of three-hit shutouts on Thursday against Canton. She yielded no walks and no runs over 69 batters faced.
In the North, Delgado was a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three doubles and five RBI for the Dolphins. The junior had three doubles and all five RBI last Wednesday versus Maine East and two more hits two days later against Niles West.
Meanwhile, Gillenwater was the South winner after a week during which she hit .875 (7-for-8) with five runs, three triples, three homers and four RBI for the Titans. She blasted three homers and scored four runs against Council last Wednesday, and followed that up with two triples and an RBI against Chilhowie on Thursday.
Borders was the choice in the South Central, going 5-for-7 (.714) for the Spartans. The senior scored five runs, drove in two and walked three times for the week. She went 1-for-1 with two runs against Clinton County and had another hit versus Warren East bookending her best game, a 3-for-3 effort with a double and two runs against Barren County.
In the West, Diaz hit .714 (5-for-7) with five runs, a double, triple and four RBI for the Highlanders. The senior was 3-for-3 versus Venice on Wednesday with three runs, a triple and three RBI, and 2-for-4 with two runs, a double and an RBI against Carson on Friday.
