LOUISVILLE, Ky. – St. John’s (Washington D.C.) Yasmine Burrell, West Shamokin’s (Pa.) Lily Jordan, Roane County’s (W.Va.) Mahailey Nicholson, Larue County’s (Ky.) Isabelle Hayes and Horizon Honors’ (Ariz.) Josie Barden were named MaxPreps / NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played March 18-24.

Burrell went 4-for-8 with a double, two home runs, seven RBI and 1.375 slugging percentage. Both longballs and five RBI came in a 10-6 victory over Our Lady of Good Counsel. She also scored three times in that contest. Burrell doubled, knocked in two runs and stole three bases versus Elizabeth Seton. 

Jordan was 7-for-7 with two doubles, three home runs and 14 RBI in two wins last week. She opened the season by going 5-for-5 with two doubles, two long balls, 11 RBI and five runs scored versus United. Against Redbank Valley, Jordan homered again with three RBI and two runs. The senior slugged 2.571 in those two contests, totaling eight runs scored and not striking out in eight plate appearances.

Nicholson was nearly unhittable last week, tossing a pair of no-hitters and surrendering just one hit and striking out 41 batters in 17 innings. The senior hurler no-hit Calhoun (14 K, 3 BB) and South Harrison (11 K, 0 BB) in two five-inning wins. Nicholson stymied Clay County with a one-hit shutout, fanning a season-best 16 batters and walking one in the 5-0 triumph.

Hayes batted .909 (10-for-11) with four doubles, seven RBI and six runs scored, while recording a .933 on-base percentage and 1.272 slugging percentage. She notched a pair of three-hit games, doubling twice and driving in three against Thomas Nelson. Hayes also had three base knocks in Northwest and scored two runs versus John Hardin and Hart County. In the circle, the junior tossed eight innings of shutout ball with six strikeouts and just three hits allowed.

Over a four-game stretch, Barden was a perfect 15-for-15 at the plate with six doubles, nine triples, 13 RBI and 15 runs scored. She recorded four hits three times, slugged 1.800, drew two walks and did not strike out in 17 plate appearances. Barden drove in a season high six runs, scored three times and doubled twice versus St. Augustine Catholic. The sophomore added two doubles, two triples with four RBI and four runs scored against Miami. She also scored four runs and swiped four bases versus Chandler Prep.
