LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Fitchburg’s (Mass.) Olivia Wentworth, Mulberry Groves’ (Ill.) Lily Johnson, Eastern Tech’s (Md.) Audrey Coker, Bucklin’s (Kan.) Halie Feikert and Fredonia’s (Ariz.) McKenna Grover were named 2023 MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week. The quintet garnered recognition for games played April 17-23.
East Region
Wentworth went 10-for-11 (.909) at the dish with five extra-base hits, 15 RBI and nine runs scored. She slugged 1.818 and reached base at a .923 clip. Wentworth drove in a season-best six runs, going 4-for-5 with a double, triple and three runs scored against Gardner. She homered twice and recorded five RBI versus South. Against Ashland she knocked in four more runs and doubled.
North Region
Johnson twirled a pair of no-hitters, including a nine-inning perfect game versus Bunker Hill. In that outing, she struck out 18 and did not allow a single batter to reach. Two day earlier, Johnson tossed a five-inning no-hitter with 13 strikeouts and four walks against Ramsey. She added three hits, an RBI and a run scored in that contest. For the week, Johnson struck out 31 in 14 innings of work.
South Region
Coker batted .917 (11-for-12) with two doubles, a triple, nine RBI and six runs scored. She collected a season-high five RBI, going 3-for-4 with a double and triple against Chesapeake. Coker registered a pair of 4-for-4 outings versus Towson and Catonsville. She drove in two runs in each contest with three runs scored in the former.
South Central Region
Feikert hit .750 (12-for-16) with four doubles, three home runs, 12 RBI, 10 runs scored and a 1.583 slugging percentage. She matched a season-best with seven runs batted with a pair of doubles, a long ball and four runs scored in game two against Spearville. She recorded four hits with two more doubles, three RBI and three runs scored in game two versus Medicine Lodge.
West Region
Grover was a perfect 11-for-11 at the plate with two doubles, two triples, a home run, 11 RBI and 11 runs scored. In game two against Red Mesa, she went 4-for-4 with seven RBI and five runs scored, posting a double and a long ball. Grover added two triples, three RBI and three runs scored in game one. She capped off the week with a 4-for-4 outing with three runs scored against El Capitan/Centennial Academy.
