LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The NFCA is honored to unveil the Wade J. Bruggeman Memorial Scholarship for High School Coaches. This brand-new educational scholarship will be awarded to a high school coach and is open to NFCA members.

Wade J. Bruggeman, the late father of current NFCA Executive Director Carol Bruggeman, spent his entire 38-year career as a high school teacher, coach, and principal in the state of Iowa. This scholarship provides a way to 'pay it forward' for high school coaches to assist with professional development. This scholarship is awarded to a high school member coach who combines a shared passion for education and coaching, while showing a commitment to youth education and growing the sport of softball.

"My dad spent his entire professional career as a teacher and coach at the high school level,” said NFCA Executive Director Carol Bruggeman. “He was equally passionate about education and sports and was dedicated to developing well-rounded high school student-athletes.”

NOMINATE HERENFCA SCHOLARSHIPS

Reviewed and voted on by the NFCA Awards Committee, the recipient must be a high school coach (head coach, assistant coach, volunteer, etc.) and an active member of the NFCA. They will receive a complimentary NFCA Convention registration, travel reimbursement up to $700, and up to four nights paid at the Convention host hotel.

“This scholarship will provide the opportunity for a deserving high school coach to attend our national Convention to network and learn from the best coaches in our sport,” said Bruggeman. “My dad loved softball and also enjoyed attending our Conventions. He would be thrilled to know his namesake scholarship will provide a unique experience each year for a high school coach.”

Celebrating 40 years in 2023, the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) is the professional organization for fastpitch softball coaches. Known for its highly-regarded Awards Program, the NFCA also educates and supports softball coaches on a variety of different levels: from NFCA podcasts to a comprehensive drills database, to in-person events and a National Convention.
