Michigan shortstop Jessica Merchant has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the week for the week of April 4-10, it was announced by the association on Wednesday. 

Merchant, a senior from Wayland, Mich, went 10-for-20 (.500) at the plate this past week with four home runs, 14 RBIs, and a 1.100 slugging percentage as the top-ranked Wolverines improved to 40-3 on the season. 

She went 3-for-4 in Michigan's 7-3 win over Central Michigan. Merchant had two home runs and five RBIs in the win over the Chippewas. 

Against Wisconsin, she belted another home run and delivered four RBIs in a 2-for-4 effort. Her best performance came against Minnesota, where she went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, four RBIs and her final home run of the week. 

She leads the team with 15 home runs, a total that matches the Michigan school record that she set last season. Merchant is hitting a team-best .412 and slugging at a .817 clip.
