SALEM, Va. -- Forty-five student athletes have been named to the 2005 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II All-America teams, as announced Wednesday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The three teams were selected by NCAA Division II head coaches representing each region.
All eight teams at the Division II national tournament are represented, with St, Mary’s (Texas) leading the way with four selections. The Rattlers placed two players on the first team All-America squad. Third baseman Roni Garcia and catcher Liz Beyer were first team honorees. Beyer was also named the Diamond Sports Catcher of the Year. Shortstop Tiffani Craft was a second team honoree and pitcher Malissa Magee was a third team at-large selection. Top-ranked Northern Kentucky had three All-Americans, including two first-team selections. Pitcher Krystal Lewallen was also honored with the Honda Award as the top player in Division II softball. Second baseman Ricki Rothbauer joined Lewallen on the first team, and outfielder Stephanie Leimbach was a second team selection. South region champion Lynn University also had three honorees. Pitcher Aimee Murch and first baseman Christina Rolla were both named to the first team. Third baseman Tiffani King was a third team selection. Kennesaw State also had three players named to All=America teams. Keri McKee was an at-large selection on the first team, while catcher Cambria McKay and outfielder Jennifer Hunt were third team selections. West region champion San Francisco State had two honorees, led by first team pitcher Sonja Garnett. Second baseman Vanessa Rodrigue was a third team selection. Bloomsburg, Concordia and LeMoyne each had one player selected to All-America teams. Bloomsburg designated player Sara Roba was a first team selection. Concordia pitcher Kristen Schmidt was a second team honoree and LeMoyne outfielder Ashley Spaziani was a third team selection. Shippensburg matched St. Mary’s with four All-America selections. Outfielder Jaime Dacey led the nation in batting and was a first team selection. Pitcher Kelley Tiesi, catcher Sarah Costa and outfielder Liz Corr were all second team selections.
