CLEARWATER, Fla. – Following the cancellation of the Saturday’s evening session at the 2023 NFCA Division I Leadoff Classic, play will resume as scheduled on Sunday with the addition of one contest and one resumption of a halted game.
The first game of the day will be at 9:30 a.m. as No. 6 Texas and Illinois square off on field 8 followed by the originally scheduled contests at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The tournament will conclude with the resumption of the halted game between Missouri and Louisville at 2:30 p.m. on Field 2. The Cardinals led 2-0 when the game was halted with the Tigers coming to bat in the top of fourth.

FRIDAY RECAP
Eight contests were completed on Saturday with eight different program picking up wins, five of those games were decided by one or two runs. Fordham and South Alabama earned their wins of the tournament. The Rams walked off with a 2-1 triumph over Prairie View A&M, while the Jaguars scored twice in the top of the seventh to edge St. John’s 5-3.
Pitt, Illinois, Howard, Louisville and Missouri all earned their second victories of the season. The Panthers survived a bases loaded jam in the seventh and hung on for an 8-7 victory over Auburn. Illinois’ Sydney Sickles set the program’s single-game (21) and career (594) strikeout records in a 6-4 nine-inning affair against Fordham.
Louisville’s Sam Booe tossed a one-hit shutout in a 10-0 win against Southern. Payton Quinonez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the Bison’s 4-2 victory over Prairie View A&M, Mizzou posted six unanswered runs in a 6-1 victory over No. 8 Northwestern.
Auburn rebounded with a 9-0 defeat of Indiana. It marked the third shutout in four games for Tiger pitchers. Maddie Penta fanned 11, walked one and allowed just two hits over six innings.
