Mt. San Antonio College holds the top spot in this week's (March 29), California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) State Poll. The Mounties have been No. 1 since the first poll of the season on March 2. The SoCal leaders are joined by NorCal's No. 1 program, Butte College, in the region rankings.
Santa Ana College's Emily Rojas and Butte's Alexis Detwiler captured 3CFCA Pitcher & Player of the Week honors for games played March 21-27.
The sophomore pitcher continued her dominance from the circle by going 4-0 – all shutouts – striking out 35 and notching her fourth no-hitter of the season. Against Golden West, Rojas matched the school’s single-game strikeout record with 13. Overall, she has a state-leading 23 wins (against three losses) with a 0.77 earned run average.
Over three games, Detwiler caught lightning in a bottle at the plate. In the back half of a doubleheader against Feather River, she was 2-for-2 with a double, triple and three runs batted in. The following day in a doubleheader against Shasta, Detwiler went a combined 7-for-9 at the plate, with five home runs (four in Game 2) and a combined 10 RBI. Her performance vaulted her into the top five in the state in RBI for the season, and she currently leads the team with a .457 batting average.
